« Singularity» what kind of philosophy is including the term? if philosophy is in the area of human intelligence, and if «singularity» means that the technology covers sides of human intelligence, philosophy is absolutely the side that will be «overcome» by the superintelligence.
Let’s imagine what I mean with this term in philosophy.
singularities in technology, if I have understood the term right, leads to a host of new discoveries and insights. It is never an end, or dead end. For example Einsteins discovery of general and special relativity was not an end, it was a starting point for lots of new technologies and theories into the workings of nature.
And I think if one transferes that into philosophy, new thoughts are more often then not, a begining and not an end.
it is the philosophy of virtuality, where there is no limits of physical body, knowledge, of life and so on...shortly , it is the philosophy of «no limit». on the other hand , «human philosophy » is fundamentally characterized as the philosophy of «limit» (of all kinds).
i don’t know whether «singularity » will really happen or not, but i think ,at least , we have to think how thoughts of «limit» deals with thought of «no limit» in the coming future. i’m very curious of the latter kind of
Most rules are pretty arbitrary, and having freedom to break these rules, or bend them, allows a greater function than the original potential of the rules. This is kind of a singularity view of all that exists-it is all potential that can have infinite functions depending on the situation and person acting on whatever exists.
«singularity» means a situation in which computer technology can do anything of the intelligent activity of human being , based on «self consciousness» of its own. this «self consciousness » is very important. just «increasing processing speed» is not enough. it must do or think by its own «will» , if not , i don’t think that «situation» should not be called «singularity ».
but such «consciousness » could be very different from humans’ one, which is caused by «no-limitedness» of computer environnement, as i said in the post.
somebody says it’s possible, and somebody says not. i don’t know which one is right.
but just to imagine «philosophy of no-limitedness» itself is very interesting philosophically.
enjoy the movie that will talk about this issue, and how can a robot programmed to effect on life of human being.
